I suppose my experience with carrying the message is being honest with those I encounter. When I first got in the rooms I was unsure of how to tell people that I went to AA meetings. Over the years I have had different approaches to this. Sometimes I would hold that information close to the chest. Other times I would just blurt it out. At this point in my sobriety I have developed a more emotionally intelligent approach, I read the person to the best of my ability and adjust accordingly.
If the situation calls for it I share openly about my experiences of going to meetings, give my personal account, and answer any questions the person might have. Or if the conversation is more in passing and they bring up the fact that they are going out and are looking forward to having a drink with their friends I say enjoy and have fun!
It’s not necessarily my responsibility to force my personal view on alcohol and what happened in my life around that on others. It’s my job to be a caring and contributing member of society and be responsible with my words.
