Tech & Web Chair Report

I think the best way to describe how I’m feeling right now is: curious. Curious how I ended up with the position of Area Tech & Web Chair, when it was not on the list I gave to Derek 🙂  Curious if too much time behind a computer screen, and at a bar stool – often at the same time – could somehow have been a good thing, because it prepared me to help AA in this way, at this time.

I’m curious to learn who are the many faithful district and home group techies throughout Area 72; what challenges they face, what brilliant solutions they’ve come up with, and how we can help one another.

Most of all, I’m curious about how to connect the dots: the efforts of our vibrant home groups, districts, and area; the shared experience of AA as a whole via the General Service Conference; the grassroots collaboration taking place in the Technology in AA Forum; and how it all fits together to carry AA’s message to still-suffering alcoholics.

I’ve connected with our outgoing Tech & Web Chair Dimitri, outgoing Webservant Jacob, and incoming Webservant Shu. Dimitri and Jacob have shared what they’ve done to support our districts and groups, and I look forward to reviewing Tech & Web quarterly minutes to learn more details about what that committee has been focused on. Jacob has arranged training sessions for Shu and me to learn how to administer the area’s technology systems.

I’ve also been looking in the mirror and practicing the phrase, “Huh, that’s a good question. I don’t know. I’ll look into it, and get back to you.” I suspect I’ll be saying that a lot this rotation.

The first Area 72 Tech & Web quarterly meeting of panel 75 will be on Saturday Jan 25th online. Digital doors open for fellowship at 9:30am, and the quarterly meeting takes place from 10am to 12pm. I’ll be meeting with Dimitri between now and then to prepare an agenda, as well as reaching out to DCMs and webservants.

In the mean time, I encourage all technically-minded folks to check out the Technology in AA Forum at https://tiaa-forum.org/ – it’s an incredible resource to connect with other techies throughout AA.

Please reach out to me via email, phone, text, carrier pigeon… whatever floats your boat. I love to talk about computers, and AA – so getting to do both at once is a real gift!
